Key point
Phoenix suburbs Tempe ($80k contract — cameras turned off) and Cave Creek (cameras removed, citing abuse cases and a stolen Flock unit) cancelled on Wednesday. DeFlock tally: >90 cities have cancelled or rejected Flock ALPRs. Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL): ALPR use is “out of control” — tools for criminals, not a “surveillance state.” Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) opened a Senate investigation into Flock’s national network the same day (letter to CEO Langley; Milwaukee officer cited: 124 searches of an ex + 55 of her former boyfriend). Flock is pushing Audit Assistance + proactive lockout. Flock to The Hill: Tempe could have kept the tool *and* privacy; taking it away “does not make a community safer.” WaPo: >50 officers accused/charged/convicted of ALPR misuse.
Why it matters
Cancellations are no longer blue-city only (AZ suburbs + a red-state governor + a GOP senator). Federal investigation is a new layer above city-council churn. Integrators in red states should assume ALPR RFPs now include audit lockout, case codes, and theft/vandalism as line items—not optional software.

Key point
Tuesday’s council session did not approve a Verkada replacement. Members directed staff not to sign a Verkada contract and to rewrite ALPR policy, likely early 2027. Santa Barbara joins LA, El Cerrito, Mountain View in suspending/ending plate readers rather than swapping vendors. One councilmember still argued a recovered-child case would convert skeptics, but wanted “strict oversight.”
Why it matters
Corrects the 2026-08-25 brief: this is not the Axon/Verkada inheritance pattern. At least one CA city is choosing no ALPR over a “closed-circuit” cloud alternative. Closed-system pitches (Verkada: no outside sharing) are no longer an automatic win once the fight is about having the cameras at all.

Search groups same person/vehicle across a 5-minute span; filter by camera group. Why it matters
Same “agentic GSOC” wave as Antare/Securitas HQ Agent, but with a hard ops metric (one event/minute) and a hardware density claim that cuts edge-box count. That’s the cost model SOCs actually buy.

IMSDK 2.0 is a unified AI + multimedia framework for Qualcomm Edge AI platforms. Named product classes: smart cameras, IP cameras, video/audio pipelines, AI inference, analytics services, Kafka or MQTT integration, cloud connectivity—in one architecture. Lands a week after Advantech’s Dragonwing IQ-9075 boxes (100 TOPS / 16 cameras / GMSL).
Why it matters
Hardware without a camera SDK is a paperweight. IMSDK 2.0 is Qualcomm trying to make IQ8/IQ9 a shippable camera/analytics stack (detect → structured events on MQTT), not just a Jetson-alternative SoC. OEMs building NDAA edge IVS boxes should treat this as the software gate.

Another VLM forensic search SKU from a top-10 NVR vendor (Novaira: #8 NVR outside China), bundled free into the cloud BI product. Face/LPR expansion is the compliance landmine; the interesting bit is video + POS/refund as one investigation, not a new detector.
